Accelerate 11+

Equip your child with the skills needed to excel in the 11+ exams for state selective and private schools through our focused weekly sessions. Although tests vary from school to school, this course is designed to cover all areas of the 11+ curriculum, including maths, comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. With specific expert guidance, tailored exercises, and targeted feedback, students will strengthen their knowledge and develop their exam technique in a supportive yet challenging environment. This course is suitable for Year 4 children who are just starting their 11+ journey or for Year 5 children who may have been studying independently (or with another provider), but need a boost.

  • Higher-level mathematics, including problem-solving

  • Higher-level reading comprehension skills

  • Revising and consolidating a thorough understanding of spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

  • Expanding vocabulary and developing sentence structure.

  • Writing across a range of genres but with a focus on narrative.

  • Verbal reasoning/word problems, including logic problems, synonyms, antonyms and analogies.

  • Non-verbal reasoning, including patterns, sequences and analogies.

Accelerate Years 5 and 6

Weekly classes designed to complement the school curriculum in Years 5 and 6.

Accelerate Year 5 Maths

Accelerate Year 5 Maths is designed to reinforce and enhance the mathematical concepts taught in school. This course offers comprehensive consolidation of topics taught in school, providing additional practice in a supportive environment. With a strong emphasis on problem solving and logical thinking, students will have the opportunity to revise and rehearse essential strategies and calculation methods. Small group settings ensure personalised attention, allowing the course to be adapted to meet the needs of each child, fostering confidence and competence in their mathematical abilities.

Maximum group size: 6

Duration: 1 hour per week during term-time

Accelerate Year 6 Maths

Our Year 6 Maths Course is tailored to support students in mastering the mathematical concepts outlined in the Upper KS2 National Curriculum Programme of Study. Designed to reinforce classroom learning, this course provides extensive practice and focuses on enhancing problem-solving skills and logical thinking. Through targeted revision and the rehearsal of essential strategies and calculation methods, students will solidify their understanding of key topics, working towards the end of year SATS. The small group format means that the course can be customised to address the needs of each student.

Accelerate Year 5 English

Our Year 5 English Course is specifically designed to embed and extend those skills which are eventually tested in the SATs at the end of KS2. This course focuses on enhancing writing, reading comprehension skills and discrete knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Key components of the course include:

  • Improving reading comprehension skills through the study of a variety of engaging texts, preparing students to understand and interpret different literary genres.

  • Developing a thorough understanding of spelling, punctuation, and grammar, equipping students with the knowledge needed to excel in these areas.

  • Expanding vocabulary to aid in reading comprehension.

  • Writing for different purposes and audiences and selecting language that shows good awareness of the reader.

  • Creating rich narratives by describing settings, characters, and atmosphere, integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action.

  • Choosing vocabulary and grammatical structures appropriate for the task.

  • Building cohesion within and across paragraphs using devices such as conjunctions, adverbials, pronouns, and synonyms, while correctly using verb tenses.

Our Year 6 English Course is specifically designed to prepare students for SATs at the end of the year, focusing on the skills required for success. This course emphasises enhancing reading comprehension skills, writing and discrete knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Key features of the course include:

  • Improving reading comprehension skills by studying a variety of complex and engaging texts, enabling students to understand and interpret different literary genres.

  • Revising and consolidating content taught throughout KS2, ensuring a thorough understanding of spelling, punctuation, and grammar essential for the SATs.

  • Expanding vocabulary and learning to use words effectively, enhancing both reading comprehension and the understanding of grammar and punctuation.

  • Creating rich narratives by describing settings, characters, and atmosphere, integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action.

  • Building cohesion within and across paragraphs using devices such as conjunctions, adverbials, pronouns, and synonyms, while correctly using verb tenses.

  • Developing writing fluency and “conscious control” over grammatical structures and vocabulary.

Masterclasses

Intensive holiday courses, designed to revise and review key elements of the KS2 Maths and English curriculum.

Easter Holiday SATS Masterclasses in Maths and English/SPaG

Designed to help Year 6 students feel fully prepared for their SATs, our focused Masterclasses separately cover key areas of Maths and English, including reading comprehension skills, SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar) and writing.

With clear, practical teaching and exam-style practice, students can build confidence, sharpen their understanding, and develop strategies to tackle challenging questions. Whether it's strengthening problem-solving skills in Maths or refining sentence structure in writing, these sessions provide targeted support to help students perform at their best.

Three hours of Maths or English per day may sound intense, but the sessions will be fun, interactive and challenging (and perhaps a little bit competitive). The time will whizz past!

The best way to reduce the “Summer slump”! These late summer holiday courses are designed for Year 4 children who are going into Year 5 the following week. As well as revising key elements of the Year 4 Mathematics and English curriculum, these courses will also be looking ahead to Year 5 and promoting critical thinking and independent learning.

English: reading comprehension techniques, writing effectively for different purposes, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation skills

Maths: calculation strategies, problem solving, applying mathematical skills.

Headstart in Year 6

The best way to reduce the “Summer slump”! These late summer holiday courses are designed for Year 5 children who are going into Year 6 the following week. As well as revising key elements of the Year 5 Mathematics and English curriculum, these courses will also be looking ahead to what is in store in Year 6. This would also be excellent revision for those children taking private school exams early in the Autumn term.
